Learn the latest casting and splinting techniques through a full day of intensive hands-on instruction and application. Workshop will cover basic and intermediate casting & splinting, including upper and lower extremity (short arm, thumb spica, volar splint, thumb spica splint, sugar tong splint, short leg and long leg cylinder) and cast complications.

CPR Certification (Workshop 2)
Limited to 10 attendees*

This session will offer the latest CPR training, including basics and specialized techniques. A combination of lecture, video, group discussion and hands-on training will be utilized by the instructor, who is certified through the National Safety Council. Participants will receive a certification card and certificate after the completion of the CPR exam given at the end of the program.

A hands-on interactive skills session outlining the fundamentals of basic casting. The “show one, do one” atmosphere will allow each participant to apply newly learned skills. Most orthotechs are accustomed to applying casts and splints in the clinical or hospital setting when they have a normal amount of time to carefully complete the task. But what if the nature of the injury (and environment in which it happens) dictates the application of a cast or splint in a much quicker timeframe? This session will provide an overview of a number of upper and lower extremity injuries and related situations that would require a careful but expedited cast or splint application. Attendees will learn about a number of “emergency” techniques that will prepare them for these circumstances and have the opportunity for hands-on application.

Dynamic Splinting of the Hand

The use of dynamic splinting allows for the immobilization of surgically repaired tendons and ligaments of the hand within functional restrictions and surgical limitations.
